The other day, Neil asked me "why is Zoe called Snuffy?" (It's her nickname)

The cat's been here for a year, he's been calling her that just as long, and he's only just asking?!

(Answer: It's from Snuffleupagus on Sesame Street, who is a big brown wooly mammoth-like muppet. If you've seen Zoe you know why it fits. ;) )

Just been to see it at the Leicester Square Odeon. Neil splashed out for Royal Circle tickets (£17 each!!!!) Of course we still got to sit through 15 minutes of adverts.

It could have been a half hour shorter--Peter Jackson just seemed to cram in every set piece he could. The laws of physics and biology did not exist. It had that annoying CGI thing where if you know it's CG, you can tell--the layers don't seem to blend correctly. If you've ever done a composite in Photoshop, you know that you have to feather the edges so things blend. It wasn't quite that bad, but the edges weren't quite right.

Those errors aside it was good fun; the acting was good (though Jack Black still hasn't quite gotten past playing Jack Black) and the visuals were well done.

I am amused/unsurprised to see a discussion of the "racism" of the Skull Island savages on IMDb--I was somewhat surprised initially, then decided it was meant as a parody of 1930s portrayals of savage tribes. It was too over the top to be anything else.

I ate too much popcorn in the cinema and am feeling slightly ill now.

The RMT have announced a strike for New Years Eve.

If it goes ahead this means Neil will have to drive. This will make ME happy (no taking cakes on the tube); but not him (he will have to be teetotal).
