I went to the supermarket. When I came back, Neil had built a Homer out of Duplo and taught Aliza to say "d'oh".

Brian stopped by yesterday, and surprised me by saying he'd found an extra ticket for me for tonight's game. So I'm going. I would have been happy for Neil to have a guys' night out but I'd be a fool to say no to the Yankees' last homestand at the stadium.

My husband has his feet up and is watching the Giants play the Rams on Fox. He and my dad have been watching the pregame stuff for about an hour and a half.

My eyes are beginning to glaze over.

I have my husband again! :) :)

Only he brought British weather with him. It's been solidly gorgeous and now we're going to have a week of rain :( Damn!

And I'm feeling cheeky, I think you should all go leave comments in [livejournal.com profile] eldar's journal so he'll be more motivated to add to it. And to annoy him. :)

If I suggest something to him, this automatically means he WON'T want to do it.

(Unless it's the sort of suggestion that's not really optional, like, "don't you think peeling some potatoes would be a good idea?")

Very silly. :P

I mention this because I just suggested something in a comment on his LJ, so now he won't do it! :-)

First he was booted off the train at Archway because of someone under a train at Finchley Central. He waited around for a bus (a few packed ones went by).

Half an hour later he calls again. A 134 (TCR - North Finchley) and a 263 (Archway - Barnet Hospital) have collided at Archway and created a godawful mess. The other bus going our way is the single-decker 143 (Archway - Brent Cross); he hasn't got a hope in hell of squeezing on one.

He's now walking up the A1.

I feel so bad that I can't go pick him up (no way in hell am I having my first solo trip in England down the A1 with the baby in tow)

(for the non-Londoners: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&hl=en&geocode=&saddr=n19+5rq&daddr=n3+1pd&sll=51.565437,-0.135101&sspn=0.010057,0.021157&ie=UTF8&z=13&om=1)

ETA: Progress! He's now on a 43 to Friern Barnet. From which he can get a 382 to the bottom of our road... goodness knows when he'll get back though :(

Neil went out at lunch time to get Aliza some onesies (he works near a Next and an M&S):

he e-mails me back with this:
"Bought bubba clothes.
A dress, a couple of tops, and a pair of trousers from Next. One of the
tops had an elephant on it so I had to get it.
4 x onesies in M&S (didn't have any in Next)."

And you think I have a thing for heffalumps ;)

Whenever I ask him about dinner, his response always involves lard. Or chips (fries to the Americans).

(NB: I do not cook with lard. Schmaltz yes, on occasion. Never ever lard. I also don't make chips at home because it's too much work/mess :) )

Bubba is fed and changed and quite bulgy as she has a Snappi'ed prefold, a Bummis wrap (jungle print), onesie, and footed sleep suit on (it's a bit chilly for just the onesie).

He's just called me--he's had a flat tire on the M4 and is waiting for the AA (to Americans--that's the Automobile Association, not Alcoholics Anonymous). They could be up to an hour. (Proof, if we needed it, that they've cut too many patrols.)

As if he hadn't had enough tsures this weekend...

Meanwhile (I'll save you another post) I did the books last night so I no longer have a teetering pile on my bedside table. I also dumped some of the rubbish, but I haven't cleaned the kitchen. Ooops. I need to roast a chicken in a bit (it needs to be cooked today) and maybe bake a banana cake later if I'm feeling sufficiently energetic. I did fall asleep during Aliza's nap, but of course she woke up half an hour later!

(OK... i stopped writing this post for a while... Neil called at 17:30 :) )

Aliza was fussy when we got home; didn't want much of her bottle. I thought she was overtired as she slept very little this afternoon and put her to bed. She went to sleep, but 20 minutes or so later, woke up and began to fuss. I tried to get her to settle, but it didn't help. Finally (around 21:20) I got her up and gave her another bottle. She sucked 90% of it down, was smiley and sleepy, and went right to bed. Good girl! She was actually awake when I went in 15 minutes ago but was being quiet--she's become quite a good sleeper and once you get her to bed she knows how to settle herself back down. (It's only a problem if she drops her pacifier right at the start when she's sucking herself to sleep. Then she cries and you have to go stick it back in.)

I put some laundry on (ooh, just beeped, shall have to fetch it in a few) and am sitting with my feet up on the sofa. :-)

Tomorrow I shall tidy up a bit and finally sort all my books out--one of the bookcases had been blocked for the past couple of months. The junk has now been removed, and all the books can be correctly shelved. I also need to take out all the recycling (including a giant stack of newspapers), clean the kitchen (meh) and bake a banana cake (yum).

Spare a thought for my poor husband: it took him over an hour to get from our house to Hanger Lane gyratory (8.3 miles according to Google). He had to take the M4 and M5 to Devon because he's driving a Transit and didn't fancy driving it down the A303. At least he hired it from a different company this time. The one at Apex Corner is still using 10 year old Transits--no power steering; it was like driving a cow. He's got to drive back tomorrow, too. :-( (At least he doesn't have to load and unload furniture this time.)
