Juvenile amusement

Yesterday I put my bottles of water in the freezer. Today I realized they were frozen solid and moved them to the fridge.

So tonight I'm drinking one of the half melted bottles of water and I notice the shape of the ice....

Neil was busy helping Maddy today so I decided to go out by myself and have a wander. I ended up going to St John's Wood because I can get American groceries there. mmmm, Italian breadcrumbs! Real American Cheerios! Egg noodles! (OK, you can sporadically find them elsewhere... though round me it's only Osem brand which suck; I prefer Manischewitz.) Plenty of other goodies I didn't buy: Kraft Mac & Cheese, Oreos, Heinz Chili Sauce, Lipton onion soup mix, Toll House morsels, Crisco, graham crackers, pancake mix, etc. Not cheap but occasionally there are things you've gotta have. Only beef flavor Rice-a-Roni in, dang ;-)

To be honest I've never been a huge junk food fan but there are little things like Italian breadcrumbs and onion soup mix that I like because I've got recipes that use them. :-)

Also got decent cherries. American imports, ironically. Going to do duck with cherry sauce tomorrow. I would've thought sour cherries would be preferable, but Mastering the Art of French Cooking says ordinary black ones, so we'll try it! Will also do rice, and possibly asparagus with parmesan. Neil won't eat the asparagus but I don't care. :-)
