A notice from the Planning Board that the owners of #269 have applied to replace their current windows (have to check, but if they have the same ones as us they have multipaned wood frame windows) with white uPVC windows.

I will be registering an objection. The chance to object to uPVC windows is too good to pass up.

(Non-Brits: uPVC is ugly plasticky stuff and looks terrible, especially when used to replace very nice Edwardian windows.)

I thought we had till August, but no. It seems Nether Street post office closed last Monday. What a shame :(

This is NOT news to me! It's taken us 25 minutes to get a space. I love the comment saying "Admittedly I have a disabled parking badge, but I have yet to wait more than seven minutes to find a space." Think that might have something to do with it?!

(For those of you who don't want to read--there are only 150 spaces available to the public at any one time, because staff are taking up 40-50% of the public carparks! There are 893 spaces, with 586 for staff only and 307 for the public. And they have the nerve to charge £4 a day.)

Parking at Barnet Hospital is terrible and it was a totally foreseeable problem that could have been solved when the hospital was built. Barnet is an out-of-town hospital. Only 2 buses serve the hospital directly; 3 stop at various points in Wood Street, a few minutes walk away (OK for visitors and staff, problematic for ill or disabled people). It's 15 minutes walk (TfL estimate) from High Barnet station. It is blatantly obvious that it's a place people will drive to. A multistory car park should have been built when the hospital was rebuilt in the 1990s. There is room on the site for this, but it wasn't built--even though the high parking charges would have paid for it. (Of course, the government thinks high parking charges are an acceptable way of raising funds for the NHS!)
