More on libraries

Funnily enough, right after I complained about Hendon library, so did Naomi Alderman:

(forgot to post it when I read it)

And, in a sad comment on the state of the borough's libraries, they're finally installing a toilet in Golders Green Library.

Do you know, for all the 'London is wonderful' people, this is perhaps a lesson. Our local library has wireless, short courses in IT, a well stocked IT section, meeting rooms, decent clean toilets, a seperate SF, horror, Western and Romance sections, a PS3, Xbox 360, self service machines and staff whose picks of the week seem to actually be quite good. This seems to be reflected in how busy it is - I remember going to Hendon library and being the only person there some days. Not so at Blackburn - heaving, to the point where they _need_ the self service machines or you'd be waiting 10 minutes to get your books out of the door. It's ace, which is why I'm still using it despite being able to afford to buy new books.
