today's gem

Apparently, superfundamentalist Christians refuse to teach set theory:

(the quote from the books is verifiable, here: http://www.abeka.com/Distinctives.html but the essay above explains why it's supposedly godless.)

(found this out when I was looking for information on one of the Christian homeschooling curricula).

Rejecting evolution isn't enough for 'em....

I told Neil this (for those of you who don't know my husband, he has a degree in math) and he said "But... but... then they're rejecting all of mathematics!"

what is it about the theory that goes against their version of reality, exactly?

Multiple infinities, as far as I can work out.
And more cynically, it's the foundation of logic, which is the antithesis of fundamentalism!

I've been telling people for YEARS that math is evil! It's about time someone agreed with me.

(Of course I don't think it's evil because it's G-dless, I think it's evil because it makes my brain hurt.)

Perhaps they do not belong to the set of relatively normal people?
There: set theory teaches exclusion (*Gasp!* Evil set theory!)
