I just spoke to my sister and got the story (I got held up at the hospital all afternoon).
The flight took off an hour late. They got to Heathrow. Heathrow was backed up. They circled for 1h45. They were about to run out of fuel. So the flight landed at Stansted. Now, the sensible thing, IMO, would have been to ferry all the passengers to Heathrow. But no. They stayed at Stansted an hour and a half to refuel, then FLEW the passengers to Heathrow. (OK, they'd still have to fly the plane to Heathrow, but at least they could have got the passengers there.) Then they couldn't get to the gate because it was flooded.
My mother managed to contact the minicab firm, they were there in 10 minutes, and they finally got to their hotel at 14:30.
Virgin didn't even offer to comp them! I told her to complain.
Funnily enough, my family are all knackered and aren't coming up here this evening.
