Cool!

Apparently, in Johannesburg they have a kosher Nando's.

You very rarely see kosher branches of most chain places (except Kosher McDonalds in Israel) so it's kind of funny that there's one in Jo'burg, of all places. (Which does have a decent sized Jewish community, but it's no New York.)

You been reading up on SA too then? How long you planning on going for? I wish Bob and Clare would get a menu created so we could discuss such things... and the chicken, of course...

yep, we're looking at 2 weeks - shame to fly all that distance and not make the most of it.
Lowest fare I saw on Expedia yesterday was £448, KLM via Amsterdam, which would be OK (though Virgin is still first choice, we love our airmiles).

I would do KLM, Air France, or Lufthansa if it were THAT much cheaper, but definitely not Emirates no matter what Bob says--it's 18 bloody hours! (Aside from my political objections...)

I was thinking of going for about 10 days, but not sure how that would fit around the actual wedding or if Gavin will be able to take as long off work. Haven't seriously investigated fares yet. If you have info, would be grateful if you could post it somewhere, as will save everyone doing the same investigations. Clarinda was talking of trying to negotiate a discounted block booking, but that does kinda mean everyone travelling at the same time, and I can't see that happening. 18 hours does sound evil... :-/

KLM looks fine on teh way out, but the four hour wait for a transfer at Schiphol looks evil too :-/

Depends, have to investigate Schipol... :)

3h at Heathrow is no problem, at least in the long-haul terminals--loads to do, at least at T3 and T4. No idea how Schipol is, but it says if you've got over 4h you can go into Amsterdam as it's only 20 mins. You'd have to allow a decent amount of time anyway, because of going through immigration (at least, _I_ do, I have to clear it even to transfer :/) And there wouldn't be a wait at Heathrow because it's a European flight.

Wondering about how much it would be to book only the Amsterdam/Paris/Frankfurt-JNB portion, and find a cheapo European flight. The taxes at LHR are horrendous.

Of course, you're talking to the Lazy Ones, watch us say "fuck it, we'll pay an extra £100 and get a nonstop flight" :)

I'm pretty sure the McDonald's in Jerusalem isn't kosher, but the Burger King is.

Yeah, the one in Jerusalem isn't kosher. They wanted to put a new kosher one in the Central Bus Station, but the Jerusalem Rabbinate doesn't allow kosher and non-kosher branches of the same chain.

I think the one in Mevasseret Zion is kosher. Most McDonalds in Israel are treif but according to the McD's Israel website, there are 14 kosher branches.
