The BBC immigration survey was interesting. I'm surprised there are so many Americans here. I knew there were quite a few but i didn't know it was 150,000!

I was good at guessing which areas the Americans would be found in:
- Central London (lot of people working here in well paid jobs, often with expat allowances)
- Richmond and bits of Surrey and Berkshire (people here with families)
- Mildenhall (well, DUH, giant air base)

I was surprised to see Golders Green and Highgate though! I noticed these as the Standard highlighted them. I suspect one of them must incorporate Hampstead, as it doesn't appear in its own right. USA is only 5th in Golders Green though.

As for my own area, Finchley, it's 29.87% foreign born; top places of origin are India, Kenya, Other South & E Africa, Cyprus, Japan. I suspect that "South and E Africa" mainly means Uganda and that they and the Kenyans are Asian--there's a sizeable Asian population here but very few black Africans. Barnet West is similar, with more Japanese (probably includes Totteridge) and Golders Green to the south has "Other Middle East" (presumably Israeli, as Iranians are counted separately) at #2. (There's enough Israelis in Golders Green for a branch of Steimatzky on Golders Green Road...)
