Just went to the library.

There are 3 depressing things about North Finchley Library:

1) The relative (lack of) space devoted to books;

2) Fiction primarily consists of things that were bestsellers in the past 3-5 years;

3) "Classics" are shelved separately from fiction.

Long Island libraries, I miss you.

I'm with you on that one. I used to be a library junkie, but I'm afraid these days that I don't have the heart to fight my way past the computers and dvds just to get to a few out of date books which are never the ones I want anyway.

I really miss the LA Public Library, particularly the Venice branch. New, popular books...IN STOCK! The book you want on the other side of the city? No worries! They'll get it for you, in days, for free. Looking for an obscure book on the Cornish in California? They actually have it somewhere!

Not like me to big-up the States, but that is definitely one thing I do miss very much.
