mmm, New York

Articles like this really make me miss New York. London's food may have improved immeasurably in the past 20 years (by all accounts), but at the lower end of the market, it's just not there yet. And sandwiches? Britain's great contribution to the modern sandwich is the pre-packaged triangle. Compare that to a hot pastrami or a chicken parm hero, much less the stuff the NYT is on about. Mmm

eBay oops

I was searching for my salad plates and someone had 2 on Buy it Now. When I clicked to purchase, it said 3 available. I thought it meant 3 individual, and took all of them (I actually needed 4). I just got them. It was 3 SETS. So now I have 6. DOH!

Now the question: is this totally my fault for misreading the listing, or should I ask for a return? I think she should have put it in the listing that each purchase was for 2, but maybe I should have known. I'd feel bad giving negative feedback.

I bet I just end up eBaying the spares to recoup my £20...

From 6 salad plates to 12: oops!

yet another anti-Israel letter in the Guardian

yada yada yada about how they won't be celebrating Israel's birthday because "We cannot celebrate the birthday of a state founded on terrorism, massacres and the dispossession of another people from their land."

1) I find it interesting how these people write "as Jews" when they do nothing that identifies themselves as Jews otherwise, nor do they have any involvement in the Jewish community;

2) No one ever feels the need to write letters about how they can't celebrate Indian independence because of what happened during Partition;

3) These letter writers never acknowledge the hundreds of thousands of Jews who were forced to flee Arab countries.

I know, nothing I haven't bitched about before, but it really gets me. The British media is insufferably smug when it comes to Israel (3 comment pieces so far this week...)

damn M&S ad

Most M&S food ads have zero effect on me, but the egg one really makes me want eggs. Maybe because it's not about an M&S product specifically; it just makes eggs look really good.
