our hob (cooktop) just died. So now I have to phone the landlord, get the flat into a state I'm not ashamed for him to see, and have it looked at (and probably replaced. hopefully. said hob was a POS with solid plates anyway.) And how the hell am I going to cook tonight's dinner? Hell, I had a whole week's worth of meals planned (for once I had my whole week planned damnit!) and they all kind of relied on being able to use the stove. Some rejigging can be done, but I have a half prepped dinner that I now can't cook.

(to our landlord's credit, he will sort it quickly--hell, when we had boiler problems, the plumber was over within hours even though it was Sunday! But he's not a miracle worker and getting a new hob bought and fitted will take a couple of days at least.)

Meanwhile, Aliza's been a right little brat today. First she was in that mood where me sitting at the table made her throw a tantrum. (It doesn't mean she wants to be played with, you understand. She just doesn't want me to sit there, out of reach.) Then she fell asleep on me and when I had to move her to get up, she woke up and wouldn't fall back asleep. So she's been cranky and underfoot since.

Landlord says he'll replace the hob as he's never been happy with it anyway, and he knows someone at Miele (!) so he'll be ringing them tomorrow. If not he'll go to John Lewis. So, a couple of days without a hob but we'll have a nice ceramic one in a few days.

ETA: Neil says it's working now (!!! - it definitely wasn't when he got home, he checked). Maybe our hob is afraid of being replaced?
