I meant to type up a letter from Thursday's Independent education section (not on the web sadly)--it was unintentionally hilarious. Some guy wrote in railing about the feminisation of the education system and how it rewarded girls who are "plodders", then claimed "everyone knows men have higher IQs" and "almost all businesses are led by men and major discoveries made by men".

Never mind the unquestioned assumptions involved (that IQ measures intelligence and the tests are fair; that things like scientific discoveries, songwriting, and business leadership were competed for on an equal playing field and that lists actual ability and so on) I can't believe that someone is not only that dumb, but dumb enough to write it in a letter to a fairly left wing newspaper! I think he dug his own grave there ;-)

Neil bought Final Fantasy XII. I have no husband. And no living-room television...

This week's "50 Best Weekend Breaks" included Cape Town, Rio de Janeiro, and Hong Kong!

One, those would involve wasting the whole weekend travelling; two, it's hypocritical for a newspaper that bleats on about climate change and the need to cut down on flying!

ETA: hahaha, the front page was a climate change story! (I read the supplements first)
