I have been visting the in-laws in Devon. Wednesday morning was a rush, so I didn't get a chance to mention it! Funnily enough, after me calling Aliza a demon, she went to bed and slept for 6.5 hours in a stretch. Then we woke up and saw the time, so we woke her up for a bottle and then she went right back to sleep.
That said, she's been a bit of a fussy madam the past few days--now that she can stay awake longer, she doesn't always want to go to sleep when she should! I don't believe in letting her lie there crying (I don't jump the milisecond she cries, because sometimes she cries out in her sleep and then stops) so I keep having to go to her. And the only thing she wants is to be held. Sometimes the sling will do, sometimes not. Occasionally, she'll consent to cuddling up to me in bed. (I'm not one for co-sleeping all the time, but I'm fine with it occasionally. That way, it's still Mommy and Daddy's bed.)
I think I'm going to give in and get her a pacifier. Sometimes the only thing that soothes her is sucking on my finger. I'm not using it to shut her up, and I'm not worried about nipple confusion, so I may as well make things a bit easier on myself and use a pacifier.
Anyway, our visit was nice and quiet. Nan got to see her great grandchild, and Aliza got cuddles from everyone. We took her down to Broadsands beach--I'm not sure she appreciated it but she had a nice nap in her pram and I think she liked the fresh air! Sara's nieces, meanwhile, had fun playing in the sand/sea (they had long suits and wellies on) and Oscar had a good run down the beach (and had to be stopped from trying to herd some other dogs). Neil's parents also watched her for a couple of hours while we went out to eat. Oh, and Neil engaged in some masochism by going to see Torquay Utd play. In the rain.
Saturday, Aliza was Miss Fusspot (hence her new name!) She'd fall asleep in someone's arms, then wake up when you tried to put her down. This kept up all night, except when she sucked on my finger. She didn't fall asleep until 5:30 :/
We stopped at Kathryn & Manu's on the way back for lunch. Today, Aliza was an angel--she cried herself out! Bottles on the 4 hour mark too, and all finished.
I bought pacifiers at Waitrose on the way back. (Brent Cross' new Sunday hours mean that the Waitrose there is now open till 6pm on sundays, yay!) The only ones they had that were suitable for 0+ months were Mr Men, but they'll do!
