This morning I noticed she was limping and avoiding her front left paw. I can't see anything wrong with it but it's obviously hurting her--she's crying. Zoe is normally a very quiet cat; if she meows, something's definitely up. She even rejected her breakfast!

It doesn't seem bad enough to call the emergency vet, but I'll keep an eye on it.

I WANTED to go to Borders, but we drove round the car park for ages without finding a space. Then Neil accidentally drove out of the carpark, so we gave up. :-( I haven't been in a bookstore yet in 2007! *sob*

I can't get to Borders on the bus, either (the buses from here go to the other side of the North Circular, and getting another bus just to get across [too far to walk] is not happening. There aren't any other big bookstores I can get to, either, and going on a weeknight won't work--Neil's tired! So we'll have to try again next Saturday, and who wants to bet it will be jammed again...

Related rant: No parent & child spaces. Now, many people don't understand the point of them. The important part isn't that they're in front (I actually believe they shouldn't be right at the front, to discourage people from taking them when they don't need them). The point is the extra space between them, so you can get the car seat out! BC Retail Park, in addition to not having enough spaces, has NO parent & child spaces, and like many UK carparks, packs the spaces in, so trying to get a baby out is a real pain. The kicker is that one of the big stores is a Mamas & Papas!

I've been put off Bernard Mathews' products for life now (not that I bought them anyway...) Not by H5N1, but by the fact that they were raising 160,000 birds on one farm! They can't possibly have been raising them under remotely decent conditions.

I do wish kosher free range birds were more widely available--the regular kosher birds are raised in giant chicken houses. (Although they do show that some of the claims about cheap chicken aren't true--it's not the farm that makes it tasteless and soggy, it's the processing. Kosher chicken is significantly firmer and tastier because it's only processed in cold water and is then soaked and salted.). Aside from animal welfare issues, modern breeding and feeding habits haven't been kind to chickens.

I've been having problems deleting a file, and I decided to try making sure it wasn't the disk. Disk permissions were repaired, no go, did verify disk. "needs repair" came flashing up. That means booting from the install disk. I get the box from my MBP. Manuals are there, no DVDs! I can't find them. Bugger. I have a Tiger install DVD but it's the original release--pre-Intel. So I can't use it, even though I don't actually want to install Tiger.

Where did I put the DVDs, and more importantly, when did I move them? I could have sworn I deliberately left them in the box on the mantelpiece so I wouldn't lose them :/

And of course I have DiskWarrior but it doesn't work on Intel.... ooh. Now Universal. But if you pay the upgrade price, no download! Goits! (I'd need the boot CD anyway since it's my main drive.) Will probably upgrade DW soon anyway if I can be bothered to go find my serial number; it's better than the standard Disk Utility.

<swears> (I'm trying to swear less. Soon enough the baby will understand what I say. So I'm just generically swearing. ;o) )

ETA: found them! they were in my laptop bag--I'd looked before, but for some reason I thought they were black DVDs, not grey--i thought the only grey Apple DVD I had was the Mighty Mouse software. D'oh :) Disk repair done, and when I rebooted, my Trash was empty.
