One of the pairs of shoes I bought was from Germany. So I was surprised when I saw a "7 1/2" on the bottom. That's more like the British size. German shoes, sold in America, marked in UK size!
(The size is puzzling me now actually. I'm sure I bought a 9.5. If you use half sizes, American and UK sizes are 2.5 off. A 9.5 should be a 7. I know this from sneaker boxes: US 9, UK 6.5, Eur 40. Looking at the shoes now, they do look slightly too long, though normally I would put that down to having gone to a 9.5.)
(Speaking of shoe sizes, my feet have turned into clodhoppers. When I was 18, I was a size 9, somewhere between narrow and medium. Now I'm a 9.5 in a lot of shoes, and between M and W. It's not as if I have fat feet, they've just spread! I was also told I have "abnormally high insteps". In real terms, this means "no, you can't buy half the sandals here; they won't buckle".)
