NOOOOO

I can't believe what I think I did.

I was listening to my iPod on the plane, and I had it in the seat pocket.

I just went to get it out, because I got an iTrip so I can play it in the rental car (no tape deck).

No iPod in my bag.

I now have a worrying suspicion that I left my iPod on the plane. *bangs head*

And even if I can replace it, new iPods don't support FireWire so I can't use it as an emergency boot disk (v.useful for repairing filesystem).

Long day

Went into the city today. Traffic sucked. I ended up going on the Grand Central Parkway and onto the Triborough just to get off the LIE--it took me 45 minutes to get from Little Neck Parkway to 108 St.

I lucked out today: I parked near Times Square (I just had to run 1 errand) and discovered that the Muni-Meter only takes quarters and $1 coins, minimum $2. I had 50ยข. I chanced it and won. :)

I had to drive to Brooklyn later. I've never driven into Brooklyn from Manhattan (except to get on the BQE, but that doesn't count) and I don't know northern Brooklyn at all. I nearly ended up in Queens. I managed to work out what I was doing, then magically found Eastern Parkway and all was well (except when I went through the Brooklyn College campus instead of around it).

I've never really spent any time in Jewish Brooklyn, and after 2 years in London, it really is amazing. Not that I'd necessarily want to live there, but it's so in-your-face Jewish. Even Golders Green is very restrained by New York standards. British Jews don't make a fuss or stick their necks out at all.

Good evening, anyway (was meeting some people), and not a bad drive back (straight down Coney Island Ave to the Belt).

Only marred by my mother calling 4 times (I didn't answer the first 3, then I got fed up) once I was 10 minutes later than I'd said. When I finally picked up, I pointed out that I was driving and I'd forgotten my hands-free kit, so did she really expect me to answer?

(Oh yeah, charged the phone: dad's laptop charger cord works.)
