Please kill me for what I just did and can't get back... *bangs head*
2 points:
1) I did not need to reinstall my laptop to fix my wireless networking bug;
2) The backup software that I thought was on my 2nd hard drive, isn't. I'm totally puzzled. I would never have deleted it unless I backed it up onto DVD, but I don't see it here.

(It's really odd. I didn't think to check to make sure it was on the 2nd drive, because I would never have deleted it. Yet it's gone, and it's not backed up to DVD. It included my copy of MS Office! :( )

John Prescott: Will stay. (Shagging your secretary is morally dubious, but weighed against Prescott's power, it's not nearly enough for him to go.)

Charles Clarke: Embarrassing political scandal in department. Definitely an exit. Normally I'd say "gone by Friday", but the PM may not want a reshuffle right before the local elections. Might last till next Friday.

Patricia Hewitt: She'll take the fall for NHS policy. I predict a post-election reshuffle.

I'm usually pretty good at predicting these things, so let's see how right I am ;)

FileSalvage can't find ANY of the missing files.
What puzzles me is that I had to rebuild my system in mid-March; I installed this software then. I don't remember deleting it or moving it to DVD (and none of the DVDs here have it). The entire folder is gone. So I must have deleted it by mistake. I don't remember doing it, but I must have, only answer. But I'm surprised that FileSalvage could find no trace of ANY of the archives. It will sometimes recover partial files.

Among other things, my copy of Office was in there! :( I have reasonable substitutes for most of MS-Office (no Excel, which is annoying, but I don't use Excel that much) but it's very good to have. And my, er, dubious copy of Photoshop *coughs*

(I know, I know... but it's so expensive and I don't use it that much. The thing is, it was what we used in the digital media classes I took in college, so it's what I know.)
Mood:: 'annoyed' annoyed

You know your blood pressure is going to go up when the Independent's front page has a blurb about Robert Fisk and the Israel lobby... it's as bad as expected. Part of the problem with that Harvard paper was that it confirmed what people "knew"--that there's this huge Israel lobby and it convinces the US government to do things which are against its interests. Opponents of that lobby then pretend to be oblivious to the potentially dangerous implications of tossing out accusations. We don't bother worrying about an "elder conspiracy" when the AARP lobbies Congress. But the Israel lobby feeds into existing feelings about a "Jewish conspiracy", and it's as wrong of critics to feign ignorance as it is for supporters to cry anti-Semitism at the drop of a pin. Don't accuse people over oversensitivity to history when you pretend it isn't there at all.

(oh, now I'm NOT happy. I read the article before I saw the cover page of the Extra section. It shows a US flag, only the 5 pointed stars are replaced with Stars of David. It's meant to go with the headline--"United States of Israel"--but it's rather reminiscent of an ill-fated New Statesman cover a few years back.)

(Heh - http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/david_tate/2006/04/im_no_racist_but.html - someoen else had the same conclusion. And didn't like Fisk bringing himself into the article.

oooh--and it's almost identical to an illustration that got Nick Griffin of the BNP in trouble!)

The other day I saw a very depressing advert. It was for a new best of Nina Simone collection, and listed some of the songs, saying of one "As featured in the Muller Light advert".

One of the greatest artists of the 20th century, and she's been reduced to "as seen in" a yoghurt advert. *cries*
