Non-meme
I'm not doing the compliment meme, but not because I don't like people and don't want to compliment them--I'm just afraid I'll be unable to come up with something that doesn't sound like "you're great, really you are!" (Not because I don't like the person, but because I'm a spaz.)

But I'll do it anyway!

1)Total number of books owned?
My Excel worksheet goes up to 530, but that includes section titles--so a bit over 500. This includes 12 boxes worth in my mother's garage.
2) The last book I bought?
George Carlin - When Will Jesus Bring the Pork Chops? Sunday 1 May, Newark Airport.
3) The last book I read?
Just finished Jasper Fforde's Something Rotten, but it was a re-read. Currently reading Freakonomics.
4) 5 books that mean a lot to me?
Larousse Gastronomique (Actually, it's hard to pick just one food related book)
Copy of Tanach (Jewish Bible) (though I don't like Artscroll's "allegorical" rendering of Song of Songs--someday I'll pick up the JPS translation) (toss up between Tanach and siddur [prayerbook])
George Orwell, 1984
Douglas Adams, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Oxford Dictionary
Edit: Since
mooism decided that I took his place, I have to tag. So, my 5 taggees:
anam_uk
boneist
clarisinda
rainfx
yanata
(this means that you have to do it too. And tag 5 people. :-) )

driving
I really hate not being able to drive here.
(Recap: My US license is valid, but I can't drive stick, so I can't drive Neil's car. And he hasn't got the patience to teach me, so I need to get lessons. Unfortunately none of the major driving schools will take me without a provisional licence [US licences are not automatically transferrable]. Since I'm a dirty foreigner, I have to send my passport to Swansea, and go to the DVLA office in Stanmore so they can verify my photograph, and I haven't had a chance.)
Anyway, I mention this again because it would've been nice to drive home with my shopping instead of lugging it home. The car is sitting outside, the keys are on the dresser, and I can't bloody drive it! Hmph.

Entry tags:
yummy!
dinner: chicken and vegetable (onion, bell pepper, mangetout, and scallions) stir-fry with teriyaki sauce (mmm salt and sugar) and rice
now: strawberries (Waitrose specialty Gariguette--very nice, sweet, juicy, and ripe all the way through) with melted Valrhona 61% chocolate :-)
(hmm. I just mixed up English and American in that first line. Oh well.)
