The whole display casing needs to be replaced. It's costing a small fortune (which is still substantially less than buying a new laptop). To be honest, I think the basic damage to the casing was done a long time ago--whatever I did the other day wouldn't have made a difference if it hadn't already been dodgy (something was slightly bent for ages, so it didn't latch or go to sleep reliably).

Sigh. No comments on how bad I am with laptops, 'kay?
