News Corp to pull out of Newsday bid
bad news: Cablevision (local cable company owned by a bunch of idiots) is the likely buyer.
There was a lot of opposition to Murdoch buying Newsday anyway--first they let him own both a newspaper and a TV station (against FCC rules), then 2 TV stations, then 2 newspapers. It was getting ridiculous. New York may be the biggest media market in the country, but allowing one man to own 3 newspapers in the same market (the Post, the Wall Street Journal, and Newsday) would have been too much.
