You get 45 minutes for 24 questions. I finished in just under 3, including reviewing all my answers. Yes, it's that easy. As the guy said to me after I finished, it's largely an English comprehension test. If you're fluent in English and read the book (there are some things you wouldn't know off the top of your head--I wouldn't have known which proportion of the UK's minority residents live in London for example!) you'll pass.
To give you an idea of how easy it is, they don't even expect you to know exactly how many MPs there are--just the approximate number. (250, 450, 650 and 850 were the choices.) It's not like they want you to know the exact number and put 646 and 659 as 2 of the options--that would trick people. (The number of MPs was reduced from 659 to 646 in 2005.)
Now I just need to make an appointment at Barnet registry office--they do the application check service so I don't have to send off my passport.
