On Monday, the landlord called and said it was time for our boiler to be inspected. He asked if they could come the next day; I said fine, and he said they'd be there in the morning. This was just fine, as then I could go do the shopping after lunch--Rosh Hashana starts tonight.
I waited all morning, no engineer. At noon, the landlord rang, said the engineer was delayed and he'd be there by 14:00. I waited. And waited. Finally they showed up at 16:45. So much for going shopping.
So I got to do it this morning (after Aliza was unbelievably fussy for nearly 2 hours... sigh). Unsurprisingly, Golders Green was jammed. I'm such a cheat this year--I haven't even baked my own cakes, much less challah. Oh well. I'll get the hang of balancing housework and parenting at some point ;)
Tonight is roast chicken and Iranian rice (morasa polo); tomorrow is brisket and kugel. Plus soup, challah and cake. Not the most elaborate of menus, but with only 2 people, it's silly to cook too much. I miss having big holiday meals :-( Next year, I hope!
