There are women, actually I'm thinking of one in particular on a forum but I'll leave her nameless, who are incredibly definite about birth and parenting. What kills me is that some of them (especially this one) is that they have ONE KID. It's really easy to know it all with a sample size of one. It's easy to say "15 months is too young to nightwean" (!) when you have 1 kid and you're not being exhausted by all night nursing. (Talk about guilt. It's incredibly good to get to 15 months period, much less 15 months with night nursing! Give women some credit, really.)
Sometimes I wish these women would have a hard time with something, just so they could learn a little empathy. Not that I wish tsuris on people, but it seems like some of them just won't understand what it's like unless they experience it themselves.
(The natural parenting forums are always a laugh. You can't take them TOO seriously, because the nuts are loudest and half the time the sensible people get drowned out, so you think everyone's like that. I'm very leery of asking for advice unless I make the question really specific. Practical questions work better, like asking about nappies. The other thing is that people outdo each other. Nothing is too extreme. If someone's upset because she can't find someone to home birth her twins, she won't get support for just going to the hospital. She'll get told "go find an illegal midwife" or "do it yourself!")
