So I decided to order one of the BumGenius nappies to try it out--the one place that sells them in the UK is overpriced (especially on shipping--£5!!) but decided I was best off trying it now because then I could have an order sent to my parents', much cheaper.

When I tried ordering them in green, I got to the confirmation page before it told me they were out of stock. Same for blue. Finally I tried yellow, and that worked. This was bad enough--it should display stock information before the confirmation page!

This morning, I got an e-mail saying "sorry, the yellow is out of stock, would you like to wait 2 weeks or pick one of the in-stock colours--pink or blue?" DOH!

(I've also had a colour substitution request on the FBs...)

Definitely ordering the full lot from the States--among other things, I can get 12 FBs for $198 (£99) PLUS free shipping, versus £12 each from the UK! And they have diaper service quality prefolds for $1.15 which are great for extra inserts as well as all the other types of insert (the basic included one is fine for daytime but you need more absorbency at night). The UK sites I've seen have prefolds for about £2 (not entirely surprising as prefolds are more of an American thing, the UK traditionally goes for terries). I can also get flats which would dry even faster than prefolds (a prefold is layered, 4 layers each side and 6 or 8 in the middle). Even if the council give me trouble over the US receipts I'll still have saved more than the subsidy--and they'd still refund me on the ones I ordered from the UK.

Aliza has graced me with a terrific bowel-clearing today. I smelt something, went to change her, it kept coming. I thought she'd stopped and went to take the dirty diaper away, but she started again. It was an unholy mess--all over the changing mat AND her clothes. It's a good thing I'd planned to give her a bath in an hour anyway! (Stuck a clean diaper on for 5 mins while I set up the bath..)

Oh goody, she's just burped up some milk. Good thing I just put her in a onesie after her bath, rather than dressing her to go out, right?

On the other hand she is making deliciously cute babbly noises. "Eeeahhh waahhh aaahhheaahhh", in a slightly meow-y voice. Followed by a giggle. All is forgiven. :-)

I was supposed to go to an NCT get-together in East Barnet today. I left at 14:25 to be there for 15:00, and walked just down the road to catch the bus. It's an every 12-15 minutes bus, for the record, although it tends to bunch a bit due to traffic in Regents Park Road.

At 14:50 one came round the bend. I did notice the front said "Brent Cross" but thought they'd just forgot to flip the sign (the 326 is Brent Cross - Barnet Spires). I flagged it and he stopped, but didn't open the doors. After a minute I knocked on the door and the driver shook his head at me. He stayed parked by the curb, letting traffic pile up behind him, but neither opened the doors nor moved off. Finally, he just left--despite me still standing there. As he pulled off I saw that the number on the back was 143--which makes no sense as that doesn't go by my house. (143 and 326 follow the same route from Brent Cross to Finchley Central, then the 326 goes towards Barnet and the 143 goes to Archway.)

I wait, I wait, I notice BOTH a 143 and 326 going the other way to Brent Cross. Finally, a little after 15:15, a 326 showed up. The driver mentioned a problem at the other end of Nether Street. Hmm. Doesn't explain the 143 though.

At this point it was so late I said sod it, I'll just go to the supermarket and Boots and back home. I left Boots at 15:55. I waited. I waited. At 16:50 a 326 finally showed up--too packed to get on, of course :-( Aliza was fussy and wanted her bottle; she ended up crying herself to sleep and I felt terrible (I couldn't take her out to feed her because it was raining; if I'd known how long it was going to take I would have gone into Costa Coffee and fed her there). I finally got a bus home just after 17:00.

No information on either route on TfL's bus information page.
