I can't believe it. I'm actually considering cloth diapers. I always said I wouldn't because of the laundry situation--with a combi unit, laundry takes ages. But I see quite a few mums doing it so it can't be impossible, and with the shaped/all-in-ones you're not dealing with folding terries. Plus I found out about flushable liners--drop them, with the poo, down the toilet :) It will save us quite a bit in the long run since we plan on having more kids, AND Barnet council will give us up to £54 as part of their waste-reduction program.

I've asked around for advice--I think the pocket style ones wll be best (see http://www.snap-ez.com/InfoPULpocket.html for how that works--other brands are things like FuzziBunz). You can get all sorts of things for the inserts--someone recommended that I actually use a regular nappy square folded into a rectangle, because it can be unfolded to wash and dry quickly. They're also more slimline than the traditional terry/prefold with wrap, which I like.

Now to convince Neil... he seemed a bit skeptical :)

I'm taking Aliza for her 4 month jabs today. Poor girl is getting her 5-in-1 (DTaP/IPV/HiB), PCV and MenC. She won't be a happy bunny later.

Oh, you horrible breast is best bullies... "independent baby experts"?!

The fact is that the UK has APPALLING BF rates. 76%? No way. The government's infant feeding survey said 66% are BF at birth, a quarter are BF at 4 months. Norway has 99% of women BF'ing when they leave the hospital and 90% still doing it at 4 months. It is the norm in Norway to breastfeed--you're unusual if you don't.

The problem is not the "breast is best" campaign. The problem is that we talk the talk but don't walk the walk. We tell women to breastfeed but don't provide the support they need to do it. There are too many midwives, doctors, nurses and health visitors who are poorly educated on breastfeeding. That's why women fail, and why they feel they're "bullied" into it.

When someone jokes about a flaming Jesus, the first thing that comes to your mind should not be "Jesus head tiki torch".
And the second should definitely not be "market opportunity!"

I hang my head and apologise to my Christian readers.

Just ordered 2 Fuzzi Bunz. I also had the BumGenius recommended to me as they do one size ones (well, from 8-35 lbs) but they're quite hard to find here (only one UK site stocks them). We'll see if the FBs suit her size and fit wise and if they do work on the inserts etc--if not move on to another brand. The Nappy Lady site recommended Bumbles with Airflow wraps, but everyone else I talked to recommended the pocket style--as easy to put on as a one piece but the two parts (assembled pre-diapering) are separated for washing and drying, so they dry much quicker. Does seem like the Nappy Lady site is not keen on pockets. Personally I think the pockets will be easiest to use, especially since Neil is not yet convinced. I'm definitely not going for prefolds or terry squares!! Pockets are one of the more expensive methods but it's still cheaper than Pampers and they'll last for more than one baby. The pockets also have good resale value :)
