Aliza's grip has gotten good--now she's started reaching for things and holding onto them properly. Mostly her pacifier or whatever bits of Mommy are handy, but she's grabbed a rattle and moved it a bit (no shaking yet). She's also laughing now!

What American accent do you have?

New York City. You are most definitely from New York City. Not New Jersey, not Connecticut. If you are from Jersey then you can probably get into New York City in 10 minutes or less.

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?

quelle surprise!
(Although I know enough about phonetics to be able to tell you this anyway--and also to tell you that my accent is slightly softer than a full on NYC one. But to a linguist, it's still New York English -- my vowels are distinctly New York. I have to admit, I tense my vowels less since I've moved--I still don't pronounce coffee with an ah, but it's not as sharply tensed as it used to be [stereotypical "cawfee"]. But you can still hear different vowels in cat and cab. I'm not sure what listeners make of my accent these days. A New Yorker would probably spot my origins, but someone else might not.)
