I was in the Apple store today to get another bottle of laptop cleaner spray... and I bought the Civ IV expansion pack. It was a particularly silly purchase as, unlike Neil, I can't play Civ IV whilst holding the baby. This is because Civ IV relies heavily on right-click. I have a Mac with a one-button trackpad. Therefore, I must use ctrl-click (or ctrl-tap, since I have the lazy 'tap trackpad to click' option set) to right-click, and I need both hands free to do this. Neil has a mouse, and can play one-handed. Bah. (I have nowhere to rest a mouse, at least not if I want to put my feet up and be comfortable--I don't think the back of the sofa would do. Also I'd have to use it left-handed.) Maybe Apple should switch to two-button trackpads... MacOS does actually use right click these days :)

When I was feeding Aliza outside Waitrose an old lady came up to me and fussed over her--told me she was expecting her 3rd great-grandchild. Aww. Whenever I feed her in public I get women coming up and telling me how gorgeous she is--it's enough to give me a swelled head!

I also got Aliza a new pack of onesies and a grobag--figured I'd try one as she is starting to throw her covers off. I stuck with 1.0 tog as our bedroom is reliably over 20C, but I do think (now that I've felt the weight) that their recommended clothing of just a onesie + 1.0 tog at 22C is a bit off. Aliza usually has a onesie and sleepsuit on, plus sheet and blanket, and isn't overheated at all. I think she needs long sleeves at least. We'll see...

She had a nice solid fuss this afternoon (no nap for either of us). Good job tonight's dinner didn't take much prep (it was brisket--put everything in heavy duty foil, stick in oven for hours). Yummy. :-) I've just put a chocolate cake in the oven... I am chocoholic....

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/career_and_jobs/public_sector/article1499983.ece

"Over the past two years, unions have reached hundreds of compromise agreements with local councils to help to protect male workers’ pay and jobs while getting a good deal for women."

So, in other words, they're selling out their female members--who have been deprived of equal pay--to keep their male members happy? I'm disgusted. And I'm disgusted with the Times' take on the issue, blaming "greedy lawyers" because women want what's due to them--equal pay. (For those outside the UK, there was a ruling here that pay had to be equitable, and traditionally male jobs could not pay more than traditionally female jobs requiring the same level of skill/training/experience. This being Britain, the answer is not to raise the women's pay... it's to cut the men's.)
