2 weeks ago, Baroness Jenny Tonge wrote a letter to the Jewish Chronicle (JC) complaining about an incident (not reported in the JC) involving the IDF in Abu Dis, near Jerusalem. A flurry of correspondence followed, questioning her sources (which she hadn't revealed). One letter asked a very pertinent question: Why write to the JC? It's the Anglo-Jewish paper. What do Jews in Stanmore and Golders Green have to do with the IDF? Nothing, except we're all Jews. Anti-Zionists usually make this whole point of how Jews aren't Israelis and so on. Writing in to the JC asking for an explanation is the exact opposite of that. Is the woman trying to prove she's an anti-Semite? (She's already done a good job of it by accusing Jews of "having a grip" on the Lib Dems.)

Western anti-Zionists don't impress me in general, especially when they start in on Israel being a "colonialist state". (That's always good coming from Europeans.) In the years preceding the Shoah, Western nations were either persecuting Jews or working very hard to keep Jews out. Is it any wonder that many Jews believed Israel was the only answer? I've always wanted a straight answer on what these anti-Zionists think should have happened instead. There isn't exactly a wealth of uninhabited-but-habitable land out there, so it's either "colonialism" or "keep your mouth shut and go back to being a minority". Well, we can see how well THAT worked. (And if that is the answer, then it is anti-Semitism--because you're singling out the Jews.)
