The baby has gone down for a nap. Do you:
a) have a nap too
b) take the opportunity for some 'me time' (read for example)
c) try to get some housework done
The answer is d) None. Whichever option you choose, it will fail. If you decide to have a nap, you won't fall asleep. If you read, you will fall asleep. If you want to do housework, the baby will have fallen asleep cuddled up to you, or will wake up crying as soon as you start something complicated.
Right now the only time I can reliably get things done is evening... when I'm tired! I'm sure it will improve as 1) I get used to it and 2) she can be left to play on her own for a bit.
(I can read things on my laptop while holding her--typing is reserved for times like now when I've put her down for a few minutes :) Reading a book doesn't work while she's awake because I keep having to put the book down to pick her up!)
