Today the Associated Press described Wallsend (in Tyneside) as "north of London".

Indeed, it is north of London, but so is most of the damn country! "Near Newcastle" would have been far more descriptive, and anyone who didn't know where Newcastle is could look it up. Or even "near Newcastle, in the north of England". But describing Tyneside as "north of London" just makes Americans look dumb.

Aliza slept 8.5 hours in a go! I think today she's making up for not being very sleepy the past few days. The pattern that's developed is that she wakes up for a bottle in the morning, goes back to sleep, then wakes up for her next bottle and stays up. Today she went back to sleep after the 2nd bottle, and is still sleepy. Maybe it's penance for keeping us up till 1am...

(Lately, instead of falling asleep after her 1st evening bottle, she stays up and fusses till it's time for another one. This midnight-or-so bottle does seem to mean she sleeps through, but means a late bedtime for us whether we want it or not. She seems to take after me ;-) )
