Aliza fussed ("hold me, or I'll wail!") until around 1am or so. Then it was bottle time. She sucked it down and went to sleep. Yay!
Or not. Because, you see, at 2am she burped up a couple of ounces, all over herself and her Moses basket, and I had to give her a sponge bath and change her clothes. This woke her right back up again, and she fussed again until her next bottle at 4am. I think Neil was very glad he didn't have work today!
Today we went to Borders. There was a mysterious queue from Brent Cross to the retail park (now renamed "Brent South Shopping Park") but plenty of parking for once. We got Aliza some books--one of those board books designed for small babies with high-contrast images (if she likes it I'll get the others in the set), Dr Seuss (I thought this would be good to read to her as it has a strong rhythm) and nursery rhymes (again rhythmic, and she'll like the bright pictures when she can see better). Right now we just want to get her accustomed to being read to; it doesn't matter so much what it is, and she can't see very well so most picture books aren't good yet. Technically I could read her The Guardian in the right tone of voice and it would do! But something like Dr Seuss or Mother Goose is easier, and soon she can look at the pictures while I read.
Neil's playing bridge tonight--qualifiers for the EBU pairs regionals. He's qualified the past 2 years, so unless he and Dave are having a spectacularly off night, he'll be off to the excitement of Leatherhead Leisure Centre next month. Meanwhile, I'm home with the baby. She's sleeping and I'm watching Panorama. I lead an exciting life!
