I was in the front room, Aliza was in her basket, and I wanted to go to bed. So I took Aliza into the bedroom, set her up, got into bed, and switched off the light. She immediately started fussing. Her diaper had been changed only a little while before and she didn't have any gas--I couldn't work out what the problem was. I got out and held her, which worked. Well, sort of--only ONE position suited her, semi upright with me sitting up (she wouldn't tolerate me lying back in bed); the trouble with this is that it makes my arm tired! I tried putting the light on again (on low, it's got a dimmer switch); no go. I took her back into the living room (this isn't the first time she's decided to fuss once she's moved). Didn't work.

After a few minutes, she changed from her "fussy cry" to her "hungry cry", even though she had her last bottle 1.5 hours ago (but she didn't finish it, so I wasn't entirely surprised she wanted more now). She's sucked down 90mL and has gone to sleep. Now that's OK as an end result, but I'm still left wondering why she was fussing in the first place! (This probably says a lot about my parenting style--I'm naturally interested in what she's trying to tell me by crying, not just interested in stopping the crying.) Not that I'm unhappy to cuddle her, but I'd like to know if there's something going on... and let's face it, there are times when I want to go back to sleep, not soothe her for half an hour!

It's now one normal colour and has had 2" chopped off. Much better.

Also took some photos with my family today and posted them. :) Aliza was rather sleepy unfortunately, so they're not the best and I'll try again tomorrow, but I wanted to make sure I got some. There's a nice shot of all 4 generations.

While browsing TheBabyWearer for tips, I discovered the semi-reclining carry, which seems to suit Aliza much better than the regular cradle hold as her head isn't down in the pouch and she can look out; plus, she prefers a more upright position generally. There's also the snuggle hold, but that's face to chest, and I think she prefers being able to look out, even if it's still all blurry. Anyway, we had a good walk round the flat in it and she seemed to enjoy it--much better than being bored in her basket when she's awake. :)
