I was in the front room, Aliza was in her basket, and I wanted to go to bed. So I took Aliza into the bedroom, set her up, got into bed, and switched off the light. She immediately started fussing. Her diaper had been changed only a little while before and she didn't have any gas--I couldn't work out what the problem was. I got out and held her, which worked. Well, sort of--only ONE position suited her, semi upright with me sitting up (she wouldn't tolerate me lying back in bed); the trouble with this is that it makes my arm tired! I tried putting the light on again (on low, it's got a dimmer switch); no go. I took her back into the living room (this isn't the first time she's decided to fuss once she's moved). Didn't work.
After a few minutes, she changed from her "fussy cry" to her "hungry cry", even though she had her last bottle 1.5 hours ago (but she didn't finish it, so I wasn't entirely surprised she wanted more now). She's sucked down 90mL and has gone to sleep. Now that's OK as an end result, but I'm still left wondering why she was fussing in the first place! (This probably says a lot about my parenting style--I'm naturally interested in what she's trying to tell me by crying, not just interested in stopping the crying.) Not that I'm unhappy to cuddle her, but I'd like to know if there's something going on... and let's face it, there are times when I want to go back to sleep, not soothe her for half an hour!
