I just went to the Orange shop at lunch time to sort out a new phone. I failed to do so, because Orange are a bunch of shits. You can't get a new phone on pay monthly without locking yourself into a new contract. I do not wish to do this, because right now, Orange are charging us Too Much Money. The cheapest talkshare plan they will let us have costs £65 and has considerably more talk time than we use, so Neil wanted to drop to PAYG when his contract expires at the beginning of next year. (We originally had to go on pay monthly because PAYG didn't allow global roaming. Now it does.)

My options are as follows:

1) Upgrade, lock self into contract for minimum of 12 months
2) Pay £70 to replace my old phone (no bloody chance! My phone was a 2.5 year old K700i, no longer manufactured so I'd just get a refurbished one anyway)
3) Go to PAYG, which has a crappy selection of phones (the K750 was the best they had, nothing in 3G).

I don't get a new phone very often, and I do use the features on them even if I'm not a heavy phone user, so I want a decent phone.

Apparently, if either of us upgrade, it locks in BOTH of us, so my other idea (I upgrade, Neil drops down to PAYG in a few months, we downgrade the talk plan) doesn't work. Alternatively, I could try getting my own contract, which I might or might not qualify for, and I'd still be locked in, and just, urgh.

Or I could go buy a non-locked phone and just get a replacement SIM from Orange for £15... I bet it would cost a fortune though.

Instead of dealing with the muppets at Orange, I decided to test my new Magimix discs (I know what 2/4/6mm is in theory, but it's good to see for yourself how things come out, so you know the best disc to choose for a particular purpose). It was surprisingly satisfying. I reduced a carrot to shreds in 2 seconds. (Also butchered a potato and an onion. It's what I had handy...)

Damn Orange (and a few other things, and pregnancy hormones) got me so annoyed and upset earlier that I was crying my way through Angel. It really has been a crap afternoon. I got myself 2 krispy kremes at Euston as consolation (I walked a bit and got the bus as I just didn't feel like getting on the train right away). I think there's some ice cream in the freezer. I might go have some now.
