Well, it went so-so for me this year: no services as I didn't feel up to the walk (I now live nearly a mile from shul instead of across the road :( ) I did eat a little bit but not much. I shall serve the break-fast shortly (milchigs, as is traditional in my family--though there's also soup left from last night if Neil's still hungry after :) )

I/we have been married 2 years! :) Neil bought me the new Killers CD and got me a card. I wasn't expecting anything at all as this has been a super-expensive month, so that was nice.

Special Topics in Calamity Physics, Marisha Pessl.

It's a little too self-consciously clever, although it gets better about that as the book goes on. Also, it is rather reminiscent of The Secret History, at least at the start. The real problem is the pacing. First 3/4 is quite slow, then the whole thing winds up with a bang in about a hundred pages. I'm sure that this was intentional and meant to make a point about the relative importance of the two sections of the book, but it didn't work that well. The effect was that the 'mystery' was wound up improbably quickly and it felt unbalanced. After you finish, of course, you realise that there were clues towards the beginning that you missed but it doesn't entirely mitigate the effect.

She's got more lumps--though my parents don't know if they're tumours or just more lipomas. She's also sleeping a lot. My mother's going to take her to the vet in a week or so and talk things over.

I'm trying to resign myself to the fact that I may not see her again :-( :-(
