We've got the computer set back up, finally (1, BT's "we'll switch the lines over at 10:30" is a lie. they START switching them at 10:30, it takes about 12 hours. Knew it. 2, Neil killed our router and we had to go get a new one.)

We did end up back at IKEA Monday. naturally they didn't even HAVE the desk Neil wanted (but we've re-measured, and can fit a bigger one anyway, so we'll go back at some point).

I'm still pissed off at Apple; not only is my laptop not repaired, I'm having a hell of a time getting any information from them! Will try again in a bit.

Expect a few updates later....

I saw the consultant on Monday. Idiot nurse told me to wait in the wrong place; I wasted an hour and a half waiting! Grrr.

All appears to be fine; because I have PCOS, I need to go for a glucose tolerance test at 28 weeks. BP still slightly high but not too bad.

Sign you're not in New York any more: I asked about fasting on Yom Kippur and she didn't know what YK was!! (OK, she's African, but this is Barnet Hospital...) In the States, ALL my doctors were Jewish. In fact my endocrinologist went to medical school in Tel-Aviv and one of the other doctors in the practice was Orthodox--so I felt totally comfortable with my rabbi's instruction to follow my doctor's advice. They knew exactly what was involved and could give correct advice--here she just said "I don't think a pregnant woman should fast" (once I explained that it was a 25 hour fast, no food or water). Now I'll have to ask about exactly what to do because there's other options besides just eating normally.

Speaking of holidays, Rosh Hashana starts tomorrow night, totally not ready, shall go shopping today. Things will be mad :/

It has one advantage: it provides an all-purpose, unanswerable excuse when calling to cancel a service. "Why are you cancelling XXX?" "I'm moving back to America". Ends all attempts to sell you more product. :-)

We went back to Brent Cross today.

First, I complained at Apple AGAIN and was given another "we'll chase it up". Luckily I have someone's name this time at least. I'll ring again tomorrow, didn't have time today.

Neil bought a new MP3 player (Creative, pah).

Went to John Lewis, exchanged the too-large tablecloth we got a few days ago, and I bought an ice-cream maker :-) :-) Magimix Le Glaciere 1.5. I'm very pleased because the bowl fits right in the bottom drawer of our freezer; I was worried it wouldn't!

I then bought some slippers in M&S as the seagrass flooring in our hall makes my feet itch. I am annoyed. I thought I was a size 7. I remember the label on my old Nikes: US 9, UK 6.5, EUR 40. Well, I seem to be more of a 9.5 these days, but a 7 should be fine, right? Nope. Came home, put them on, need an 8 :-(

Did Rosh Hashana shopping. Brisket is £11.99/kg :-( And you lose half the weight in the cooking. But it's a holiday....
