I told Neil to get me a tacky souvenir in Athens. He duly complied and purchased a statue of Athena. It is really quite appallingly tacky: Athena's spear is attached to her head. I don't mean leaning against it, I mean there's a little band of plaster connecting them. According to the sticker on the bottom it cost €10.50. :) Still, I asked for tacky and it fits the bill admirably! He thought it would go nicely with the mini-Ganesha his parents bought him in India. Mmm, avoda zara. (As far as I'm concerned they're purely amusing cultural artifacts and I have no belief in them as idols, although that probably doesn't justify owning them, strictly speaking. Then again no one worships Athena today, do they? Ganesha's probably more of a problem in that respect.)
Neil also bought an Acropolis fridge magnet.
