I went to reboot my laptop aaaaand.... question-mark folder. Root filesystem fried. I wasn't entirely surprised because this did happen before and I ran various disk repair programs. I AM annoyed as my backups are a few days old and I was going to take new ones as soon as I rebooted! I won't have lost anything really important, just a few days of e-mail, IM conversations, and so on, but still. Disk Utility can see the physical disk, but there's no filesystem on it.
So no more delaying on the laptop repair. I'll be demanding a new hard drive (as well as a new LCD). At least I can go to Brent Cross instead of Regent Street.
I'm now on Neil's PC, which I am beating into submission because he's only had it a week, and unlike me, just gets it into a state where it's half-usable and then starts having fun. I go for getting it all back on when I'm on a roll. :) (Though, to be fair, all of his stuff is on a dead PC and he has to work out some way of getting it back.)
