It started out rather poorly. In fact, about halfway through, we pulled over and the instructor suggested that I might want to think about just getting an automatic licence. Not because I can't handle the stick, but because she thought I would be more confident and relaxed if I didn't have to think about it.

The second half was better: she realised that if I'm slightly distracted (conversation, radio...) I relax, stop over-focusing, and generally drive much better. Phew. Also, finally found the best position for the seat, so my leg's more comfortable and I release the clutch properly instead of bringing it up too quickly, which made gear changes much smoother!

Anyway, today's drive was up to Potters Bar and around bits of Hertfordshire (through South Mimms and Shenley, then back). Made it up to 4th gear and 50-odd mph (funny, I'm used to driving 75 on the expressway, now I'm back to "learner mode" where everything over 30 feels fast!)
