She was just IM'ing me... then she says "ok I'm going to the beach time to get ready". AND she went to Fire Island this weekend (one of her friends must have gotten a share).

I miss living 20 minutes from the beach. And living in a climate where it's actually hot enough to want to go ;)

Plus, it's July 4th. US Independence Day is a fab holiday. Beach, barbeque, fireworks.

Rabbi Dr Louis Jacobs dies at 86.

I have rather conflicted opinions on Rabbi Jacobs (being, as I am, United Synagogue and not Masorti, and having broken away from the Conservative movement in the US) but his personal integrity and scholarship has never been in doubt, and I still see it as a loss for Anglo-Jewry. (The obituary doesn't mention that he also studied at Gateshead, the most traditional and prestigious yeshiva in postwar Europe.) Baruch Dayan HaEmet.
