I bought a copy of WarGames the other day. I decided to watch it last night.

It keeps skipping. I took it out, wiped it to make sure I hadn't gotten any fingerprints on it, and tried again. Same thing. Repeat. No joy, and it doesn't improve as the film goes along.

Our bedroom DVD player is an El Cheapo one, so I tried it on the living room player (a nice Sony) to be sure. Same problem. So it's definitely the disc.

So now I'll have to trudge down to HMV in Islington (might do it tomorrow) and try to get a return. I say try, because my luck, they won't have another copy in stock and HMV don't do refunds. I would have bought it in Borders next door (which not only has better return policies, but didn't have techno remixes of 80s movie music blaring--really put me off browsing) but they didn't have it.

I was planning on a nice WarGames/Sneakers double bill dang it! (Geektastic baby)

Evil Boots woman refused to give me more than 1 day's emergency supply! Said she "wouldn't do it for this medication". I know it's my fault for forgetting to drop the slip off at the surgery and that it's at her discretion as to whether to dispense emergency pills, but what did she think I was going to do with 4 days worth?!

Should've lied and told her I had dropped off the slip but it wouldn't be ready till Wednesday morning. She probably didn't want to encourage lazy idiots like me.

oh, and she charged £20 for 3 pills!!! I know emergency supplies are subject to private charge but I had to do this once before and it was about £10 for 3 days.

Now I'll have to waste the GP's time tomorrow. I'll lie to the nasty receptionists (who really, really hate people who don't do their refills properly. The GPs themselves are perfectly nice about it--takes 2 minutes and there's always another patient to see--but the receptionists get bitchy.) Might ask about my blood sugar since I'm allotted 10 minutes to waste.

In somewhat less evil (but still irritating) news, Waitrose was out of aubergines! That's tonight's dinner plan out the window. Should have bought them Friday after all. I'm sure one of the Turkish greengrocers has them in, but that's work.

My vision's starting to go funny--usually first sign of a migraine. My first thought was to reach for the ibuprofen (if I take 3 before the migraine hits, it blunts it pretty well). But then I remembered--pregnant--don't know if I can take it!

(Shall ask GP tomorrow for future reference...)

Oh, in better news--went past the dentist today and they've apparently changed their mind on NHS patients, because they had a sign up saying "now taking new NHS patients". So I shall book myself in for a check-up as soon as I have my pregnancy exemption certificate ;-) (I've been having occasional toothaches, all in the same spot, so I really should go. I was just resisting because I didn't want to get started on hundreds of pounds of private dental work. I know, I know, ironic coming from me....)
