I declined to go to Andy and Nay's to watch the football as I doubted my ability to stay up. I was right. Not that I missed much anyway... ;)

It's been hot today, so I had the air conditioner running while I slept. The problem is that it blows straight on me, and even on Low/21C, it's COLD! (Portable unit...) But if I turn it off, the room gets hot and muggy very quickly. Tomorrow I'll try moving it to the other window so it doesn't blow directly on us.

I saw my GP 3 weeks ago. He said he'd refer me to Barnet Hospital for my antenatal care (in my area it's all done at the hospital--at least I don't live too far away :/ ), and that they were "very quick" so I should get the appointment letter soon.

No sign of it, and I'm supposed to have my first antenatal appointment between 10 and 12 weeks. I'm 9 weeks now. And I have no idea if/when I should ring the GP surgery to ask about it.

This is definitely one time I'm missing the US system--over there I'd simply go to my regular obstetrician/gynecologist who would do all the pre-natal and the delivery. (OK I'd get sent across the road to the radiologist's for the scan!) Here, I could see different midwives every visit, see the OB twice and get an entirely new midwife to deliver. :( And forget making appointments--they tell you when to come in.

(Some areas do have a more joined up service, mine doesn't, so it's as much local pot luck as the NHS in general. But remember, I go to a GP surgery that makes you go to hospital for a stupid blood sugar test! On the plus side, I'm told that Barnet's a reasonably good place to give birth, and it's not too hard to get to for all my appointments. Since it's highly unlikely I'd be allowed to give birth outside a consultant-led unit even if I wanted to, I should be happy about that. Well, they can't MAKE you do anything, but I'd certainly be refused at the midwife unit and I'd be strongly discouraged from a home birth, not that I would ever want one as you might guess!)

Saturday's Independent front page had someone from every World Cup country.

On the inside, they had a little blurb from each person. Everyone except the USA fan.

Emma Mitchell (natural health loon in the Guardian Weekend mag) has outdone herself yesterday with the following:

"Make sure the Vitamin C you're takng is a non-acidic version...."

Do you know what Vitamin C IS? It's ascorbic acid!

(Yes, I wrote in. How could I resist?)

I've moved the air-conditioner to the window further from the bed. This is better: I can still feel the breeze, but it's not blowing directly on me.

Mmmm, cold bedroom. (can't be bothered re-arranging things so it can go in the living room... I might change my mind later when I have to cook!)
