My parents are house-hunting.

House #1 is being sold by the family of someone I went to school with. My mother then proceeded to inform me that it's a divorce and the wife is a drunk/pill-popper (she can't decide which).

House #2 is also a divorce sale. My parents go to see it Sunday. The realtor warned them "it's a little messy". Turns out that the guy put his 26 year old brother in the house to sell it and he's turned it into a frat house. I won't share my mother's descriptions of the filth (suffice it to say that the ASPCA should be called, then a hazmat cleanup crew). One nice touch: The kid put a photo of him and his girlfriend in the master bath. A naked photo. Funnily enough, my parents will not be putting in an offer.

This morning was a last minute flurry of errands. I needed a Seder plate. First shop--"hmm, don't really fancy any of these, I'll try the one on the other end of Golders Green Road". Only, er, it was closed. D'oh! So, back to first shop, got Seder plate (glass--not ugly at all, I've just seen nicer ones). Butcher's (no whole boilers left, had to buy parts, worried about giblets then realised I can use the ones from the roasting chicken I've also got). But he gave me the shank bone for free. :-)

Waited HALF AN HOUR for a 221 bus at Mill Hill East on the way back. Grr. Then Waitrose was out of eggs. I'm serious. No eggs except for duck eggs and the "rare breeds" ones--I got six because I was desperate. (Going to Sainsburys was not an option. I needed to get a cab back because I had too much stuff to carry.) Luckily, it turned out that I had 6 eggs more than I thought I did, so I'm OK for tonight. Phew.

So now I'm home, soup's on the stove, brisket in the oven, egg and shankbone roasted, charoset made. Not too bad. All I need to do is make the knaidlach and kugel and set up the seder plate.

(DOH!!! I just discovered I bought roaster portions instead of boiler portions. I'm sure I saw boiler portions in the cabinet there so why did I pick the wrong ones up? Oh well, should be all right I guess... I made a base from carcasses first anyway. Hey, maybe this way the chicken meat will be edible instead of tough and stringy ;) )
