I logged onto the Sallie Mae site to correct my address. I discovered that all the fields were filled in correctly--the Sallie Mae site simply inserts "foreign phone number" into the address. *Bangs head*
I also got a letter from DHL yesterday saying I owe them £44 and threatening to send me to collections if I don't pay within 10 days. There's an invoice number and it's dated 09/02/06, but beyond that there's no information as to what it's for. And there's no way to track invoices on the website, just waybills.
(Interesting note: The Apple "English - British" dictionary has just allowed "waybill", but flags "website".)
Now, this £44 is suspiciously similar to the $75 Amazon charged me as an import fees deposit. So--did Amazon not pass it on? I find it hard to believe Amazon would have their estimate halved. And if it WAS custom duty, why did DHL deliver a package without asking for the fees? Royal Mail/Parcelforce will not hand anything over without you paying.
(Ah ha. Read the back of the letter. It does appear to be a duty/VAT invoice, and DHL claim that to "ensure timely delivery" they pay it for you and then invoice. Why the hell does it take so long? If this is the parcel I think it was, it was delivered the first week of January! I'll also have to check the credit card bill to see if I was charged the import fee deposit or what. I ain't paying it twice.)
