Yesterday was one of the most amazingly clear days I've ever seen. We were on the Loop Parkway and I could see the Statue of Liberty and the Manhattan skyline. That's nearly 20 miles away!
The flight home didn't start off that well. We got bulkhead seats, even though I had chosen seats 20A and 20C on the website. The extra legroom is nice, but you can't stow your bag in front of you and the seats are slightly narrower. I also discovered something unpleasant about Premium Economy on the new A340-600: If you're overweight or pregnant, you can forget about using your tray table. They unfold from the armrest and the allotted gap between your seat and the edge of the table isn't much. Neither Neil nor I could use them. Virgin is getting a letter. Ironically, there's no problem in Economy (I've flown on these planes before): it can be a little tight, since there's not much space between the seats anyway, but you can use them. And they fold horizontally so you can use them that way too for filling out your landing card, etc.
Then they announced that the inflight entertainment system wasn't working at all and they were just playing (bad) movies on 2 channels. Great--we were looking forward to the interactive system. Oh well, 5,000 extra Flying Club miles for us.
Then it perked up: PE wasn't full, Neil moved and I got 2 seats to myself (but you can't move the armrests damnit) and he discovered that the IFE was working in our section. Some programs weren't accessible but most were. Naturally, I then fell asleep for most of the flight.
We got through immigration and baggage in record time, then had to wait ages for a bus to the car park--we will not be booking this car park again! Home, drop stuff off, go grocery shopping, and then zonk time. I zonked for nearly 9 hours.... oops....
Kitty cat returns tomorrow.
