In an article on Sen. Joseph McCarthy, The Independent claimed that he was the reason President Harry Truman lost the 1952 election.
Er, no.
Harry Truman didn't run in 1952! He withdrew his candidacy in March following a primary loss. The main reason for his unpopularity was a dispute with Gen. Douglas MacArthur over the war in Korea. (He was eligible to run. The 22nd Amendment was ratified while he was president, and included a grandfather clause so it didn't apply to the current president.)
The Democratic candidate in 1952 was Adlai Stevenson, and Joseph McCarthy was an issue in that race.
