They're changing their rules as of March.
Good News:
All flights now qualify for miles. At the moment, the very cheapest tickets don't. From March, the very cheapest tickets (class N) will get 50% miles, all other discounted economy tickets get 100% miles. Class N tickets also get tier points.
(Take that BA, with your "executive scheme" that only grants miles on full-fare economy and up!)
Bad News:
Redemption levels are up. To/from New York it's gone from 40K/50K/80K to 45K/67.5K/90K. They're really putting the squeeze on Premium Economy redemptions. Also, non-Northeast US destinations (Florida, Vegas, California) are at a higher redemption rate; they're now the same as the Caribbean.
One level remains the same--an Upper Class ticket to/from Sydney remains at 180K miles. :)
My grandmother's air miles have been transferred. I now have 88,356 miles in my Flying Club account. I could fly Upper Class this trip... but I won't. I really would love to fly it sometime; it's gorgeous. Not quite BA First, but better than BA Club World and the same price.
BTW, the taxes (which we have to pay, or rather, my parents are) came to almost £250 for the pair! I don't know if we get tier points, which would be nice to maintain our Flying Club Silver status.
Oh yea, for I am a slave to Branson. (And wouldn't you be, when your alternatives are Evil BA, American, and United? I have yet to work out why American carriers are so shite. When it comes to most customer-service oriented things, we're great. But we can't run a major airline to save our skins.)
