Yesterday, the Royal Mail website claimed that my package would be delivered by the "guarantee time" on 07/12/05, i.e. yesterday.

By 17:00, no package, no slip. Guarantee my arse.

BTW, the Mail had an article screaming about the outrageous rise in stamp prices. Of 2p. *snort*

(Hmm, the website claims a card was left "before 12:46" but I checked the post at 14:00 and I didn't see one. I'll re-check...)

I toodled off to the delivery office and collected my RAM. (Still no card, but I had the tracking number. Strangely, the packet was marked "07:39 - no answer" which makes no sense; we were home then. hmm. Can't remember exactly what time I went out to the delivery office yesterday about that other parcel... Neil was in, though, and I know he wasn't in the shower yet.)

Luckily, I'd read the install instructions last night. Opening the memory bay requires a Philips 00 screwdriver, which we don't (didn't) possess. I had to go buy one. Well, you can't just buy it, you have to buy a precision kit. Which I have, but it only has Philips sizes 0 and 1. I had to search to find a kit that had the 00. (It's as teeny as that sounds.)

The install itself was easy as pie. I've stuck RAM into desktop machines, but never a laptop, and when I first thought of upgrading my RAM, I discounted it because I thought I'd need a tech to open it up and do it. I was pleased to discover that RAM is user-upgradeable. Just take out the battery, open up the bay (3 screws) and pop it in.

So, so dark. I never realised how much darker London is than New York in the winter (until I moved here of course). The sun never gets very high, and it feels like late afternoon at 13:00. It's not good for the mood. No holiday in the sun to look forward to this year either :-(

(Today's times: Sunrise 07:53, sunset 15:52.)

It's spaghetti and meatballs. I offered Neil the choice of that or spaghetti bolognese but he went for the American option. Not that I entirely mind, because I tend to find bolognese sauce a bit bland, especially on its own. (I don't think the recipes I've tried are the problem. I've done it with very well rated recipes that other people have raved about. I think it's me and a lifetime of eating southern Italian food.)

So I've got a nice pot of sauce simmering on the stove. I made too much as usual. I used to make it in job lots (and freeze the extra) so making smaller quantities is difficult! (No room to freeze the extra here.) I know not to use 5 kilos of tinned tomatoes, but I still make too much. Hopefully we'll manage to eat the extra at some point!
