1. Name your favourite thing about living in London?
Books!! :) I LOVE Charing Cross Road.

2. Whats at the top of your list of things to do before you are 40?
Have kids, finish my education (preferably to postgraduate level)

3. Favourite piece of classical music (for some reason Im assuming you have one for sure)?
Hard... but I'll go for Handel's Passacaglia for Violin & Viola (adapted by Halvorsen), performed by Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. Which may sound like a rather obscure choice, but it's from a gala concert celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Israeli Philarmonic Orchestra. Not only is it a wonderful piece but it's an outstanding performance.

4. Whats more important, education or breeding, and why?
Education, definitely. Anyone can scrub up if they want to. As for breeding, I present Prince Charles.

5. Have you ever danced like no one was looking?
Yep. Only since I've gotten older though.

And the instructions of course:
1) Leave a comment, saying you want to be interviewed.
2) I will respond; I'll ask you five questions.
3) You'll update your journal with my five questions, and your five answers.
4) You'll include this explanation.
5) You'll ask other people five questions when they want to be interviewed.

As you may know, I'm a sucker for cute animals, which is why I read [livejournal.com profile] baaaaabyanimals

This one is just too cute not to share:

(baby panda!)

Now, if I could just get really baby elephants.... (Yes, I watched the Elephant Diaries on the BBC, and that was excellent, but a newborn elephant is unbelievably small. Well, compared to a full grown elephant, anyway: it still weighs about 200 lb!)

Yesterday I said to Neil, "David Blunkett is going to resign tomorrow."

Neil: "That's what BBC News says?"
Me: "No, he's insisting that he's not going to resign. That means he will."

Today, I loaded up BBC News and sure enough, he'd announced his resignation.

no slivered almonds in Sainsbury's, and neither Sainsbury's, Tesco, nor Waitrose have them on their websites.

Very odd. And yet I have a British Christmas cake recipe that specifies slivered almonds. Which I would like to make. Anyone got a source that doesn't involve my mother shipping me a pack? :) (If I'd known I would've brought some--I brought candied orange peel because it's so hard to find just orange, rather than mixed.)

(Flakes won't do, they're too thin and insubstantial.)

1) Do you plan to go on holiday next year, and if so, where and why?
We'd like to. No plans yet. It depends on time, money, and how many times I end up visiting my parents...

2) When do you hope to have found employment? And what do you hope to do?
Soon! It's really discouraging and I don't know what to do about it. After you've been out of work long enough you start believing you're unemployable and the market reinforces that. As for what, I just want to do something, to get my confidence back--which is why I'm volunteering. (My CRB should be back soon, it's taking ages, so I'll finally get to do some real work soon... I'll be volunteering in their family centre, and also with a group that takes disadvantaged kids out on Sundays once a month.)

3) We know about your passions for food, reading and pedantry - but what excites you that we don't know about?
I'm passionate about lots of things! Languages, religion, history, art...

4) You don't drink - why is that?
I never liked the taste, and then I went on antidepressants and the doctor advised me against drinking. I've tried it once or twice, but I get so sleepy so fast that there's no point.

5) What is the most innovative way so far you've tried to distract Neil from Civ?
I can't say here, it's R-rated ;)
