Just got a letter from our dentist saying that due to the NHS "reforms", they are partly withdrawing from NHS practice. (They don't say exactly what this means.)
The NHS dental reforms are bullshit. They're simplifying the charges, great. But what are the new ones? £15 for an exam, £41 for a filling, and £183 for "more complex work". The Health Minister has the cheek to say this is fairer because the maximum payment will be half what it is now--but I suspect the average patient will be paying a lot more. My last NHS filling was £11, and my private ones were, I think, about £45. So for an extra £4, I can go private AND get better quality work!
This is completely fucked. Just like so much of the NHS. I'm all for universal health care, don't get me wrong, but I am increasingly unconvinced that the NHS model is workable.
